Insanity – An Effective Workout or Completely Insane?

There are an endless number of workout programs designed for use in the privacy of your home. And all them vary in effectiveness, equipment necessary, time commitment, and quality. Beachbody is one company that brings you high quality, well designed, low investment home workout programs. One of their most popular home workout programs is Shaun T’s Insanity Workout.

Shaun T is your personal trainer bringing you the DVD home-based fitness program known as Insanity. The Insanity Workout Program is a 60 day program consisting of 10 workout DVD’s packed with plyometric drills on top of nonstop intervals of strength, power, resistance, and ab and core training moves. Insanity – Is it too Insane???

Well, that’s a lot of hype. But is it as effective as they claim? Is it really as hard as they claim? Is it a solid fitness program or an insane mentality that isn’t healthy? Is it for you?

It is true, the Insanity Fitness program is pretty insane – there are some truly intensive workouts. But with all of the hype of the marketing claims, that shouldn’t come as a surprise. As should be obvious from the commercials and website, Beachbody is not trying to sell you a magic weight loss pill. In fact, they make sure you know what is expected of you. Beachbody ensures that you realize it is a punishing workout program. But it is also pretty clear, that if you dedicate yourself and give your best for 60 days, you’ll get incredible results in return.

If you are out of shape, Insanity may not be for you. I’d suggest starting with a less intense workout program in order to get a basic level of fitness. Even though it’s hard, Insanity isn’t too crazy as a workout program. It is intense, but in a good way. And Shaun T is good about making sure you know that when you need a break, you are free to take one. And trust me, everybody is going to need unscheduled breaks. And they’re a good measure of how you are improving. At the beginning of the Insanity program, you’ll take a lot of breaks. If yo try and reduce the number of breaks every workout, you’ll be in the best shape of your life in no time.

The thing that can be a real challenge is performing these 1-hour grueling workouts 6 days a week for the next 2 months. This is tuff for anybody to do, and requires real commitment to succeed. You are going to have to commit to the full 60 days to get the most out of this program. Real progress comes from real effort. If you truly want to take your fitness to the next level, make the commitment to finish this program.

Anybody that has actually participated in an Insanity Workout knows that the program works. The program works. The hard choice is, is the level of fitness that the Insanity Workout Program will bring you worth the sweat and tears to you? These workouts will burn the calories, there is no doubt about that. The program will also help you improve your core body strength.

Insanity Workout Activities

The Insanity Workouts are designed around the following principles:

  • Plyometrics – The Insanity Workouts heavily relies on the principles of plyometrics, which consists of a lot of quick, explosive movements such as jumping. If you have any knee or joint problems, you should check with your doctor before attempting the Insanity program.
  • Equipment – One thing I love about Insanity is that the program doesn’t require the purchase of any equipment. It would be wise to ensure you have a good pair of workout shoes that provide adequate support, and a workout matt to reduce joint strain while performing jumping movements.
  • Commitment – As mentioned, the workouts are an hour long, and the program consists of workouts six days a week. It will take commitment and determination to complete this program. Either make the commitment, or don’t waste your time.

If you complete this program, there is no doubt that you will lose weight and reduce your body fat, while also increasing your stamina and strength. But as has been made clear, it isn’t easy. You will only get out of this program what you put in. As Shaun T would say, Dig Deep.
